OGKRC’s Paul Griffiths has filed the following race report after this weekends 2012 April Club Day.
After a rainy Saturday night, Oakleigh’s April Club Day began with not a cloud in the sky on a perfect Sunday morning. 112 entries, the usual mix of old and new faces and names, and the glorious weather meant a good day of racing was ahead of us. As the day went on the clouds came over, but to everyone’s relief, the wet stuff stayed away.
Thanks as usual go to all the helpers and volunteers and a special thanks to Tara Sims who stepped into the grid marshall’s role for the day and did a fine job.

The Oakleigh Go Kart Racing club would like to thank Mr Naismith from Dandenong Tyre and Auto Repairs for his time and generosity in repairing the club’s “Ambulance”. Mr Naismith gave up his time by taking our “Ambulance” back to his workshop for repairs. This repair has once again saved our “Ambulance” from the scrap yard. The Committee and members of the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club wish to thank Mr Naismith for his generous donation of his time and labour.
In recognition, the Committee would like to encourage Club members to consider Dandenong Tyre & Auto Repairs at 6-8 Brants Road, Dandenong, Vic, 3175 (Tel. 03 9794 6444) for their next vehicle service and maintenance.
The club is holding a working bee on Tuesday, April 24, starting at 5pm. The track will be closed for normal use during the working bee.
The grounds and track need a general clean up for the upcoming club day.
Please come along, lend a hand, and help out your club.
Online pre-entries are open for the April 2012 Club Day. This club race event will be held on April 29 2012. If you are racing at this event, please take a minute to pre-enter. This helps speed up the entry taking process on race day and allows racing to begin earlier.
If you can’t pre-enter, you can still enter and race on the day of the event.
At tonight’s general meeting, it was decided that competitors points from the March Club Day Sportsman 125 Restricted p-plate races, will not be allocated to the Sportsman 125 Restricted championship.
The April general meeting of the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club is being held this Tuesday April 10th 2012, at 7.30pm in the club rooms.
All members are invited to attend the general meeting. Many discussions, ideas and decisions are made at the general meetings. If you don’t attend, you are then unable to have your say in the direction that the club takes on various matters.
This month, some of the key items up for discussion are:
- Track flag point lights
- Appointment of a new time keeper
- Appointment of a new race secretary
- Discuss changing the club’s constitution relating to the running of general meetings
- New club room progress
Club President Adam Bourke said, “I hope we have many attend so we can actually vote on some things to get the club moving forward. There seems to be a lack of interest all round on what is happening at the club.”
OGKRC members David and James Sera had a very successful weekends racing at the 2012 New Zealand National Sprint Karting Championships, held at the Hamilton circuit.
David Sera, drove an exceptional final race, going on to win the 2012 New Zealand Nationals in the Rotax Light class. David started in position 25 on the grid due to a mechanical problem in the pre-final.
James Sera, also battled hard to finish in second place in the Yamaha Light class.
Congratulations to both drivers.
