May 2013 Club Day

Club day is done and dusted, and what a great day. Thank you to all the committee who put in that extra effort to make it a good club day.

We had key people missing, so special thanks to Tara Sims who was a steward, Reggie for running the canteen without Sam, Steve for doing tech inspections due to David calling in sick and looking after his kids racing, Stan and Bruce for doing finishing, Peter 1st time as Chief steward, and me (John) becoming clerk of course due to Adrian not attending. Also, thanks to all that did jobs they hadn’t done before.

The drivers must be applauded as the driving standard was very good and roll arounds and starts were fantastic.

It helped the day a lot by having 5 permanent flaggies. Goes to show this makes the day go great.

We need people to come forward to learn how to do things so when key people are away we can still run a club day.

Thank you all
John Chapman and David Bell   VP OGKRC

For the remainder of 2013, Senior classes that do not have more than 5 entries will not be presented with trophies.

OGKRC’s starter Paul Griffiths has filed the following race report following the April 2013 Club Day.

Oakleigh’s April Club Day began on a mild but overcast Sunday morning with 127 karters set to do battle. The Restricted classes provided the usual number of high entries, and good to see Junior National Light and Junior National Heavy particularly well supported. We got underway with:

TAG 125 Heavy

Heat 1 began with Richard Camilleri off pole – returning from a break and not having done much testing on the Dunlop tyre – Vern Kranz beside him in P2. Time out of the seat didn’t hold Camilleri back, pulling to the lead Continue reading

The Griffiths Report February Club Day 2013

OGKRC’s starter Paul Griffiths shoes were filled by Steve Griffin for the first two heats, however Paul was able to attend the finals, and has filed this somewhat more concise report following the 2013 February Club Day.

Oakleigh’s 2013 Club Day calendar kicked off with the traditional February Saturday Day / Night fixture under warm & sunny skies in the afternoon. Your correspondent had an engagement during the afternoon and missed the first two Heats, so the report for this month will be on the Final Heat only. As the sun slowly set and the Oakleigh lights took over, Cadets got set to hit the track.

Agenda Item For February General Meeting

An important agenda item has been added for tomorrow night’s OGKRC General Meeting which will be held at 7.30pm in the club rooms. This agenda item relates to whether the club will be offering the Sportsman or TaG class at club days in 2013.

The three series that are being run in Victoria in 2013, the Victorian Karting Series, Golden Power Series and the Country Series, will all be offering the TaG class which uses Dunlop SL6 tyres, not the Sportsman class which uses MG Red tyres.

Before the racing season begins, we need to vote on which class will run. Please come along to the general meeting tomorrow night to discuss which class you prefer.

February Club Day 2013 Entries Now Open

The first club day races of 2013 are soon upon us. Saturday February 23 is the date and this will be a day / night event as we have all become accustomed to during the warmer months. Entries are open now, so please head over to the race entry page to read the event information and to pre-enter.

The track will be open to competitors all morning for free practice and racing is scheduled to start around 2pm.

This year the club has spilt the popular Sportsman 125 Restricted class into a light and heavy division. Please ensure that when you pre-enter, that you enter the correct weight class to suit you.

Don’t forget to bring your clear visors, as they must be used once the track lights are switched on.

If you aren’t racing at this event, but have some time available, please come and help out the club, even for just an hour or two. We are always needing helpers to be flag marshals, or to help in the canteen.

For further information, please click on the Race Entry page.
