Stolen CRG ROTAX 2005 MAXIIMO

Stolen from my Garage in Rowville was my CRG Rotax. It's the black current Maximo but with standard clubman plastics, not the F1 style plastics as seen on most current model CRGs.

It is a bit unique as the plastics had many large holes drilled in the bottom for weight reduction. It also had the small 3 litre fuel tank, not the usual Rotax tank. An Alfano is fitted to the standard wheel. I raced with No: 46 and it only had 2 Concept Karting stickers on the nose cone although they would most likely be removed.

It was last seen on the back of a White Holden V8 1 Tonner, possibly HQ or HX vintage with 5 spoke Globe mags (Ford type). The first letters of the number plate are NMN or NKN or similar.

Anyone seeing or hearing of the kart or the 1 tonner please call me on 0438526660. The police are already involved and I will pass on any further info directly to them.

Needless to say that any info leading to the return of my only real toy will be met with serious tangible gratitude.

Many thanks in advance.

OGKRC Drivers @ Pucka / Leopard FInal

On behalf of the committee and members congratulations to David Sera for winning the Leopard Light final at Eastern Lions at the weekend, first prize was a brand new Toyota car. David won with what looked like ease in the final just easing a comfortable gap and controlling the race.

Also congratulations to Michael Griffiths for a fantastic effort in Leopard Heavy to be on pole and leading the final when unfortunately broke a header pipe and that was the end of his chance to win the other car up for grabs.

Well done to both of you. It is always a buzz to see the Oakleigh members doing so well.

Oakleigh Club News

October Club Day results have been uploaded to the mylaps website. Also, championship points for the 2006 OGKRC Class Driver have been updated. These are now the total points for the year as next months event, the Class Titles, doesn't count toward the Class Driver points tally. Please note, if you raced at all club day rounds this year, you will need to deduct your lowest points scoring round to get your corrected points tally. For those of you who didn't race at all rounds this year, your tally doesn't alter.

GRANT SMITH 2006 Junior Clubman National Champion. Grant has defended his national title in style after finding himself in the repecharge after qualifying. Grant worked his way up through the heats and finished 3rd in the pre-final. In the final Grant was in second until lap 13 when he took the lead. He dropped back to 4th on lap 17 of 21 but climed back to the front on lap 19 and led the rest of the race winning by 1.153 seconds over Scott Pye.

LEIGH NICOLAOU 2006 Junior Nat. Heavy National Champion. This is not the first time Leigh has won a national championship after winning Junior Nat. Light at Pucka in 2004. Leigh qualified 3rd fastest in the second qualifying session and spent the whole weekend at the front of the field winning the first heat and two 2nd's in the second heat and the prefinal. In the final Leigh was in second place when Amrit Kandola dropped a chain and this left a group of 4 battling for the lead. It came down to Leigh and a fast charging Joshua Hughes. In the closing lap Leigh defended very well and held the lead across the line by a mere .080 of a second.

General Club News

A BIG THANK YOU to David Graham and Huntingdale Cranes for all the work David did last Saturday (25th March) moving the Coffee Ford sign and grand stands. The photos below show the job being done and the big cherry picker we used on Friday night to adjust the lights around the track to position them better for racing at night.

The club has also put a substantial ad in the Grand Prix lift out in "The Age" this week, It is to promote the club and hopefully attract new members and to promote Karting in general, it is a great ad so have a look and see what you think.

GCPS 2006
The following are email responses to questions asked by Bernie about the running of the GCPS in 2006 ................

Thursday, 27 October 2005
Email to proposed host clubs for 2006 GCPS from Pam Arnett

Hi guys,
I have a question from Oakleigh Kart club in regards to the power series rounds as they have not heard anything –

  1. Are they holding the first round of the series?
  2. Changing dates with Bendigo.
  3. Part of the series.

Can you please either let Oakleigh know what is happening or are we changing the dates.
Please let me know ASAP.

Regards
Pam

Monday, 31 October 2005
Bendigo response:

To Pam as President and Delegate of the Bendigo kart club it was discussed at the Delegates meeting on the 6 of October 2005 that the Bendigo Kart Club being the smallest track we would hold the first round of the Golden City Power series for 2006 and not change with Oakleigh, other clubs to hold the other rounds are Gippsland, Rochester, Swan Hill and the final to be held at Eastern lions.

Regards
Bob Grinton
Bendigo President

Gippsland response:

Question 1.
No – reason Oakleigh cannot hold the first round as Bendigo/Gippsland are only 22 and 24

Example: If bendigo got 22 entries in JNL then that 22 got first chance to enter Gippsland by a certain date/then the class becomes open to grid 24

If Gippsland got the 22 that entered Bendigo the class would be open to only 2 more making it 24

Question 2.
No to change of date: If Oakleigh want to be in the series they have a strict closing date for the 22 that entered Bendigo/Gippsland and they could then fill their grid of 32 .

Question 3.
If they don’t want to be part of the series then there will only be 4 rounds in 2006. Bendigo/Gippsland/Rochester/Eastern Lions

Regards
Graeme Monds
Gippsland President

Oakleigh response:
Thursday, 3 November 2005

Dear Pam

Due to the feedback from the two clubs who responded to your email, Bendigo and Gippsland, Oakleigh wishes to officially withdraw from holding a round of the GCPS in 2006. Please note that the reason for our withdrawal from the series is simple, the Oakleigh Go Kart club has worked tirelessly over the past few years to encourage people to get back into their go karts and go racing, (have fun), our club and committee put this before anything, we have upgraded our facility to the most modern and up to date of any club, possibly in Australia and we are very proud of it, all this effort has been put in for our members and everyone that comes to visit, we will never restrict, reject, or ignore any karter that wants to compete at our club. As I was not asked to attend this secret meeting that was put together on the 6th of October after the Delegats meeting, (amazing as I attended the delegates meeting) I can only go on what I hear and read, I believe the format these clubs are putting together is unworkable for the larger clubs and puts massive restrictions on karters,
Since the time we (OAKLEIGH and you Pam) started the ball rolling on the GCPS, it grew into to such a fantastic event attracting some fantastic sponsors and some of the largest fields we have seen for many years and now it has come to this, I have been saying for at least 12 months, in my opinion and many others this series needs to go to the larger facilities that can cater for not only the larger entry numbers but also the spectators, please don't think I am critical of the smaller clubs, I am far from that, we encourage our members to support all the clubs, and if they were to have a look at their entries from the past, I am sure they would have some members from Oakleigh among them, we are trying to be realistic and if the series cant go to the larger clubs then obviously it must go to the smaller one's.

In closing we think some of the people concerned need to stop thinking only of revenue and start thinking of the karters.
I would like to personally thank Kevin Mc Kinnon for all his fantastic effort towards making the series as successful as it was.

President Oakleigh Go Kart Club
Yamaha Championship

Congratulations to David Sera for his win in Japan at the Yamaha World Championships. What a fantastic achievement for him to go over there and race their best, with very little practice, if any. I believe he had to run the engines in and set the kart up at the same time, so I would imagine there would have been a fair bit of pressure on the old man to get it right, and they did, so well done to both of them, how good is that, the first Aussie to win the world Yamaha Championship and he is an Oakleigh Champion.
