Monash Motorsport European Update

The team from Monash Motorsport has sent updates of their latest event.

Team in GermanyI just thought I’d give you another update now that the team is back from Europe.

We competed at Formula Student Germany from 29th July to 3rd August against over 70 teams. The week started off well with MMS getting through scrutineering and technical inspection on the Wednesday. On Thursday, we had all of our static events, with Design Event and Cost Analysis in the morning and Business Presentation in the afternoon.

We ended up taking out 4th in Design, 2nd in Cost and 5th in Business Preso, which were awesome results and put us in a really good position going into the dynamic events. On Friday, we had our Skidpad event and took out 2nd.

M13 FSGOverall, we were in a very strong position going into the weekend.

On Saturday, we had the Acceleration and Autocross events. After an eventful day with the car having some shifting issues, we managed to fix the problem and take out 6th in Autocross.

Sunday was the last event, Endurance. The car went out on track in the late afternoon and was driving well. Our first driver, Drew Trathen, was setting good times and pulled into the driver change area with no issues. Our second driver, Michael Geist, went out on track and was also posting some great lap times. We looked to be on track to place 2nd for FSG!

Cost Award FSGUnfortunately disaster struck when, on the last lap of Endurance, the fuel pressure dropped too low and the car came to a halt 700m from the finish line. It was a devastating end to our competition, however the team were still able to cheer on the other cars as they finished their events.

Overall, I would call it quite a successful experience, with the team learning some hard lessons and (I think) becoming more inspired to keep working for Auscomp.

I have attached a couple photos from the week (more can be found on our Facebook page).

Best Regards,
Areeb
