Sunday dawns bright and sunny but with a chilly wind as we get ready for the Final day of racing at the Vic Kart Championship. An update on Coady Gorringe from KA3 Junior who left the track in an ambulance yesterday; I am told he has a broken arm and some soft tissue injuries to his leg, but he was well enough to return to the track today to watch what might have been. Sponsors are believed to be queuing up to take advantage of vacant advertising space on the underside of his floor pan and the bottom of his seat – in the meantime all at the Club wish him a speedy recovery.
We begin with the 3rd Heats of KA3 Senior Light and Cadet 9 which we didn’t get finished yesterday, then into the 4th Heats from there.
TAG 125 Masters
Start of the 4th Heats now and Riddell off pole but dropswell back as we get going and Wyhoon through to the lead ahead of Kranz and Smith, recovering from a couple of DNF’s in the Heats, then Riddell finds his feet and gets back to 3rd while Wyhoon runs wide at Page Bros but hangs on to the lead – but now has Kranz closing in on him fast. A few laps later Riddell has joined these 3 so we might see some changes up front soon. Kranz starts to look racy on Wyhoon, but has to be wary of Riddell hot on his hammer, while Smith sits back in 4th watching on. 3 to go and it all happens at JSKC as they come out 3 wide and Kranz Continue reading
Round 2 of the Victorian Kart Championship comes to Oakleigh and while I enjoy doing the Club days at Oakleigh, it’s great to have a bigger meeting come to town and see a few karters I haven’t seen race in a while have a spin around the tight Oakleigh circuit. Friday was practice and James and Dave Sera were out there adding to the gazillion laps they have already done here, Matt McLean and Cooper Webster running around with their number 1’s bright and shiny on the front of their karts, and it was great to see the Old Master Remo Luciani still quick as ever, passing karts into JSKC and choking at the same time – some things never change!
Once Friday practice finished Continue reading

After last month where things were all report and no photos, for June we change it around – I had to do track lights duty so only a summary report, and Andrew joined us again from AKD photos, so pics aplenty. Please contact him if you want a shot of you or your pilot in action at http://www.akdphotos.com/ .
As you would expect in June, things were chilly with a gloomy sky that threatened, but never actually delivered rain. A cool breeze stiffened through the day and although it was occasionally sunny, you would never say it was a great day to be out of doors. So good on those who turned up to have a go – here’s what they did:
KA4 Junior Light and KA4 Junior Heavy
Jai Stephenson took all before him in Light, winning all the heats and the final, Joshua Hocking and Bradley James followed him home after always being in the top few Continue reading

I was awake in the early hours of Sunday morning listening to a gentle shower gradually turn into a downpour, followed by the arrival of thunder, and soon after lightning – so we might be in for a pretty ordinary May Club Day. Then again, I live a fair way from the Oakleigh circuit and maybe the weather there would be completely different – perhaps balmy with sunny skies and gentle breezes…. Nup! Rain and a chilling wind greeted the early arrivals and in the end we managed a modest 65 entries for the day.
By the time qualifying started the rain had gone and we had a track drying under bright sunshine, but the forecast for the afternoon was ominous – I think I heard the word “hail” in there somewhere, so we’ll see what happens.
This month a more lengthy report as I am ably assisted with the flag lights by none other than KV VP Adam Bourke, whose company I enjoyed for the day. Unfortunately no pics though, and with three heats and a final, the report gets awfully wordy, so give yourself a reward if you manage to plough through it all!
